Baby Gracie was born at just 27 weeks, weighing only 2lbs 2oz, and spent her first three weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children.
During those early weeks, charity-funded support helped mum, Stephanie, and dad, Brendan, feel close to their tiny daughter, even when they couldn’t be beside her.
vCreate meant the neonatal team could send precious photos and videos, including one of Gracie in a tiny hat during the World Cup. Stephanie and Gracie were also given Miniboos, soft comforter blankets that can be swapped between parents and babies.
“It’s like being able to have a wee bit of her with you when you have to be apart.”
These were just some of the charity-funded projects and practical support that helped Stephanie and Brendan through their neonatal journey.
After three weeks, Gracie was strong enough to be transferred to the neonatal unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where her journey continued before she was able to go home with her mum and dad, four weeks before her original due date.

Across Glasgow’s three neonatal units (RHC, PRM, RAH), specialist NHS teams provide exceptional medical care for babies who need it.
But neonatal care is about more than medicine.
It’s about helping a baby know the familiar scent of their parent when they can’t be held. Helping a mum express milk for her tiny baby. Giving parents a precious photo when they can’t be by the cot. Creating hand and footprints a family can treasure forever, or giving families somewhere to stay when home is too far away.
