For Every Little Heart - Dr. Lindsey Hunter

10 February 2026 Lindsey Hunter

This #HeartMonth, we’re shining a light not only on children and families affected by cardiac conditions but also the people who care for them every day.

Dr. Lindsey Hunter, Consultant Paediatric and Fetal Cardiologist at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children, often supports children before they’re even born - diagnosing heart conditions during pregnancy and guiding families through what comes next. From those first prenatal appointments, through neonatal and intensive care stays and beyond, the hospital team are there every step of the way.

“We get to know families so well, sometimes from 20 weeks of pregnancy. It’s a real privilege to walk that journey with them.”

For many children, cardiac care isn’t short term, it’s a lifelong journey. Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity works alongside the Scottish Paediatric Cardiology Service to make this journey little easier and ensure young patients and their families have access to the best care possible.

“The difference the charity makes is huge. Without it, things would be so different.”

Cardiac team - LindseyCharity support helps create welcoming spaces for sensitive conversations, funds play services and provides vital equipment and scanners that enable the cardiac team to diagnose conditions faster and more accurately.

And when children are admitted to hospital, it helps families stay close with accommodation at Crossbasket House, a lifeline during some of their hardest days.

“The charity’s support means we can focus on giving the best possible care and families feel supported, not alone.”

Lindsey’s commitment doesn’t stop at the hospital doors. She has supported the charity for years, taking part in fundraising challenges including walking the Great Wall of China with colleagues, giving talks when the charity was still based at Yorkhill Hospital, and even appearing on a TV quiz show to raise funds, all to further support the families she works with every day.

As Scotland’s specialist paediatric cardiac centre, every child who needs inpatient heart care comes to Glasgow, meaning families often travel hundreds of miles for treatment. Alongside clinics at the hospital, the team also delivers outpatient and outreach appointments in communities across the country, reaching families as far away as Shetland, bringing expert care closer to home whenever they can.

“We try to make things as easy as possible for families, even when the journey is hard.”

Because every little heart deserves the very best care.

This #HeartMonth, you can help make that possible.
