Brave Iona excited for Oor Wullie's BIG Walk

3 July 2019 Patient5

Iona's Auntie, Karen, tells us why they'll be joining our Sponsored Walk & Fun Day on August 10th:

“Just weeks before my niece Iona’s 5th birthday, she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain stem cancer. It’s thanks to the support of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity that, despite all she’s been through, we have seen her face light up with joy during some of the most difficult times."

“I’ve just completed the London Marathon and now we’ll be joining the charity’s Sponsored Walk & Fun Day in August to boost our fundraising even more!

“Iona has already been through 12 hours of brain surgery, 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy and has completed 4 cycles of chemo. This has meant numerous long and short stays in hospital and we’ve been blown away by the charity’s support.

"While in hospital, Iona has met Disney princesses, sports stars, Clown Doctors, Santa and has never been short of charity volunteers to play and make arts and crafts with."

“We can’t wait to join Oor Wullie’s BIG Walk and would urge any families who have been touched by Glasgow's amazing children's hospital to sign up and help raise funds for such a vital cause. Having completed treatment, Iona loves visiting the sculptures and even painted a mini one herself.”
