Supporting Safe Deliveries
A new handheld ultrasound device, funded by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, is helping anaesthetists at the Princess Royal Maternity in Glasgow deliver safe, effective care for mothers and babies.
The Accuro ultrasound device supports clinicians when administering spinal or epidural anaesthesia during labour and childbirth. Compact, portable and easy to use, it offers a convenient alternative to larger ultrasound machines, helping anaesthetists identify the important anatomy, in cases where it may be difficult.
Dr Kate Slade, Consultant Anaesthetist at the Princess Royal Maternity, said:
“The Accuro ultrasound machine contributes to safe anaesthetic care and ultimately, the safe delivery of babies. It gives anaesthetists an additional tool to help them manage more complex cases, particularly when time is critical.”
Dr Malcolm Broom, Consultant Anaesthetist, thanked Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity for funding the equipment.
“Having this equipment available can make a real difference to the care we provide. The Accuro device helps us work more efficiently, particularly in challenging cases, and supports our team in delivering a high standard of clinical care. We’re very grateful to the Charity for making this possible.”
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity is committed to continuing to support the hospitals and clinical teams caring for families across Glasgow and beyond. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, specialist pieces of equipment, like the Accuro ultrasound device, are helping to deliver the best possible outcomes for women and their babies.
