Connie's Concert

After receiving incredible support from the charity throughout her life, Connie and her family decided to give back through 2 very special concerts - raising over £6,000 in aid of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity!

Connie's Hospital Journey

16-year-old Connie has been cared for by teams in both Yorkhill and the Royal Hospital for Children her entire life. After birth, Connie was diagnosed with Spinal Dysraphism and underwent her first major spinal cord surgery at only two years old. Connie continues to receive specialist treatment at the children’s hospital after undergoing further surgeries. Today, Connie is doing well and has started fundraising to give back for the support she and her family have received.

Support From Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity

We have been able to provide comfort and support for Connie through welcomed distractions for her and her siblings thanks to the wonderful Play Team, as well as accommodation at Crossbasket House, so her family could remain close by when Connie is in hospital.

Connie shares:

“My hospital stay was difficult not only for me but for my whole family. My mum had to spend long periods away from my brother and sister, but the charity helped to ease that burden in so many ways."

“They provided my mum with a home from home, so she could stay close to me, while my brother and sister were always made to feel welcome during their visits.

“The Play Team were incredibly kind and gave them activities to keep them occupied. They even had the chance to visit the Medicinema when I wasn’t well enough to join them.

“Those small acts of kindness made a huge difference to all of us.”

Giving Back

To say thank you for incredible care and support she experienced through the years, Connie has hosted fundraisers to help other families spending time in the children’s hospital.

Recently, Connie and her family hosted “Connie’s Concert” at her high school, with the community coming together for a fabulous night of performances from local drama groups, soloists, choirs, and dances.

Connie was also invited along to sing and fundraise at the Ayr Gospel Community Choir Concert. The concerts raised a combined total of over £6,000, which will make an enormous difference to the babies, children and families we care for.

“Fundraising has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It has been so heartwarming to see how the generosity and kindness of the community has helped children and families during some of the hardest times of their lives.”

Connie hopes to keep hosting fundraising events and helping other families.

“I have a few ideas to raise more funds so that more children and families can receive the same care, support, and compassion that meant so much to me and my family throughout my childhood.”
