The Teddy Hospital is one of the many projects that Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity funds at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.
Here, children are given the opportunity to learn about their conditions and upcoming treatments in a non-clinical environment by carrying out the same procedures on their teddies first.
Having to go in to hospital for treatment of any kind can be a very frightening and intimidating experience for children.
With the help of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity’s Teddy Hospital Volunteers and our Play Service Team, children become more familiar with the equipment and procedures associated with their illness.
Through structured play with the teddies children can better understand what they will have to experience themselves. This will help to reduce any worry and anxiety for children surrounding hospital visits to help ensure that children have the best possible experience.
"Martina loves the Teddy Hospital. The play therapy is a way for her to open up and helps to explain things in a way that I can't to her" - Martina's sister Christine
