10k Sponsored Walk - FAQs
Our 10k Sponsored Walk and fun day takes place on Saturday 1st September in Elder Park, Glasgow. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the event, but if you have a question then don't hesitate to get in touch - you can call us on 0141 212 8750.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can take part in the Sponsored Walk?
Our sponsored Walk is an event that everyone can get involved in and is open to participants of all ages and abilities. The route is wheelchair and buggy friendly and you can bring your dog along too.
**Please check with your doctor prior to taking part if you have any medical conditions that may endanger you or other participants**
Can children participate on their own?
No, all participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied with an adult at all times. Anyone on the day who is under the age of 16 that is not accompanied by an adult will not be allowed to participate.
What time does the walk start and finish?
Gates will open from 8.30AM.
Registration/Check In will open at 9.00AM and warm up activities will follow. Our 10k Walk will depart at 10:00 AM and our 3k Walk will depart at 10:15. Our fun day will run inside the event village at Elder Park until 4PM.
Can I participate in the Walk if I am late and arrive after 10.00am
Our walk will depart at 10.00am. For participants safety, there will be a front and back walker. If the back walker has already left the park unfortunately you will be unable to join the group.
How can I register as a team?
You can register a team of four by signing up online on our website. If you want to register a team of 4+ members please get in touch with us. The bigger the better! Call us on 0141 212 8750 or email email@example.com
When will my event pack arrive and what will it include?
Your fundraising pack will be posted out to you. Packs are issued on a weekly basis so please allow 5 working days from time of registration. The event pack will include a branded t-shirt and registration number. If you have not received your pack after 5 working days, please call us on 0141 212 8750
What if my t-shirt isn’t the correct size?
To ensure we are cost effective, we strongly encourage you to visit our fundraising hub based in the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. Our Hub is open 7 days a week and you can bring your t-shirt to the hub for exchange. The opening hours for our hub are;
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 08.30am - 5.15pm
Thursday: 08.30am - 7.45pm
Saturday and Sunday: 10.00am - 4.00pm
If you are unable to visit our fundraising hub, please call our team and we can arrange to post out another t-shirt to you.
What if I have lost my t-shirt or Walker Number before the event?
It is important that you ensure your t-shirt and walker number are kept in a safe place until the event. Should you lose your walker number or t-shirt, you can talk to the team at the registration desk on the day of the event and they can provide you with another t-shirt. Please note, we are unable to reprint your walker number but can provide a written one on the day if necessary.
Can I run the route?
No. The event is designed as a Walk. There will be a front walker leading the way and participants must remain behind the front walker for safety reasons.
How far is the walk?
There are both 3k and 10k options. The 10 kilometres route is long (6.2 miles) which takes on average 2- 3 hours to walk. The route starts and finishes in Elder Park, Govan. Our 3k route will leave the park and visit the Royal Hospital for Children, Govan before returning to Elder Park.
How can I fundraise online?

- Go to www.justgiving.com
- Log in via Facebook or register (follow the simple steps)
- Search for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and click on the logo
- Click “Fundraise for us”
- Click “Taking part in an organised event” and select 10K Walk
- Complete your personal profile and hit “Create”
- You can now personalise your page
- Don’t forget to use the “SHARE” button to share your page with family and friends

What if I need more sponsorship forms or fundraising ideas?
Sponsorship forms will be sent out to you in your fundraising pack and if you need more, please contact us and we can send more to you. Our friendly Fundraising Team are always happy to help and share ideas so please do not hesitate to contact them by calling 0141 212 8750 or email email@example.com
Can I just pay the registration fee and not raise money?
Yes, however the registration fee only contributes to the administrative costs of the event. The sponsorship money you raise will help us to ensure that the babies, children and young people treated at the hospital receive the best possible care. We have a recommended fundraising target of £125 per participant.
Can I wear Fancy Dress?
Absolutely! We will even have a prize for the “Best Dressed”
I have friends and family who are unable to participate in the walk, can they join me to celebrate after I have completed the route?
Yes, we encourage friends and family to come along to support you and enjoy the fun day back at Elder Park.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We regularly monitor the weather forecast in the lead up to an event. Please dress weather appropriate and wear sensible footwear.
The Sponsored Walk would only be cancelled in cases of extreme weather and in this instance participants would be notified as soon as possible.
Does the Walk start and finish at the same point?
Yes, the route is circular and the start and finish point is within Elder Park, Govan.
How can I get to Elder Park?
We would encourage participants to use public transport to reach Elder Park. The park is located close by Govan Subway Station. Limited on street parking is available in and around the area.
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are more than welcome at this event but please ensure that they are kept on a lead at all times. There will be refreshments on route for your dog too.
Can I get a map of the route before the day?
We will email participants the route map the week prior to the event. The map will also be available to download from our website the week prior too. The walk will be fully signed, marshalled, and there will be lead and back walkers to ensure everyone gets round the 10k route with ease.
How can I access any photos that are taken on the day?
Photographs will be taken throughout the event and used in future publications for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. If you do not wish your image to be used please identify yourself to the organisers on the day.
Is there a cut off time to complete the 10K?
Any participant that falls out with the 7 hours jurisdiction will be removed from the route.

All participants registered to take part in the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity Sponsored Walk are asked to read and adhere to the following terms and conditions of entry.
- By registering for this event, you are confirming that you wish to enter the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity Sponsored Walk. You are confirming that you are medically fit to walk the distance involved, and will not hold the organisers responsible for any injury or loss to your property or person however caused, before, during or after the event.
- Children of 16 years and under may participate but only with consent of a parent/guardian.
- If you deviate from the assigned route, you are no longer a registered participant on the event, and will be marked off the route accordingly.
- If you are walking on your own please ensure you carry details of your emergency contact.
- Any participant that falls out with the 7 hours jurisdiction will be removed from the official walk.
- Photographs will be taken throughout the event and used in future publications for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. If you do not wish your image to be used please identify yourself to the organisers on the day.
